Sun Valley and Garnet Valley Les Misérables Casts Share a Powerful Day of Collaboration
On Wednesday, February 11, the casts of Les Misérables from Sun Valley High School and Garnet Valley High School came together for a joint rehearsal that celebrated shared artistry, friendship, and a mutual love of one of musical theatre’s most iconic works.
Both schools are producing Les Misérables, the sweeping story of redemption, justice, sacrifice, and hope set against the backdrop of revolutionary France. The musical follows Jean Valjean, a former prisoner seeking a second chance at life, as he is relentlessly pursued by Inspector Javert. Along the way, audiences meet unforgettable characters such as Fantine, Cosette, Marius, Éponine, and the spirited students fighting for change led by Enjolras. With a soaring score that includes “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “On My Own,” and the stirring anthem “One Day More,” the show challenges performers and inspires audiences.
During the February 11 gathering, students from both schools quickly connected through theatre games and shared performances. Directors Liz Hazlett, Meghan Arters, and Heather Arters proudly observed as students led the rehearsal, demonstrated their work, and supported one another. The talent in the room was undeniable. Both casts showcased strong vocals, emotional depth, and a clear understanding of the heart of the story they are telling.
The highlight of the afternoon came when the two groups joined together to sing "At the End of the Day" and “One Day More.” Hearing the combined voices of both casts filled the space with energy and unity, reflecting not only the spirit of the show but also the camaraderie between the two programs.
Garnet Valley Drama parents generously provided snacks, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all. In a meaningful show of support, students from both schools purchased tickets to attend each other’s productions, reinforcing the idea that theatre thrives on encouragement and shared celebration rather than competition.
Both schools participate in the Cappies Awards and Independence Awards programs and have been nominees and winners in each. The joint rehearsal served as a reminder that while excellence is recognized through awards, the true strength of theatre lies in collaboration and community.
Audiences will have two opportunities to experience this remarkable story. Garnet Valley High School will present Les Misérables March 4 through 7, and Sun Valley High School will follow with performances March 19 through 21. Community members are encouraged to support both productions and see how each talented cast brings its own interpretation and heart to this timeless musical.
The February 11 rehearsal was a celebration of talent, kindness, and shared passion. Both schools look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future and building on the friendships formed through this unforgettable experience.
