For more than a decade, Ron and Jackie Phillips have been two of the most dedicated and generous supporters of the Garnet Valley Performing Arts Association. In addition to serving as parent volunteers, mentors, and advocates for students, they have also been proud sponsors of senior scholarships, helping ensure that graduating performers are celebrated and supported as they take their next steps. Their commitment of both time and resources has earned them deep respect throughout the Garnet Valley performing arts community.
Ron Phillips is a detective with the New Castle County Division of Police and a longtime member of the Garnet Valley Performing Arts set crew, where he became known as the ultimate “set dad.” Jackie Phillips is a former producer, current dance captain, and a constant presence in rehearsals, where she continues to support choreography and guide students with warmth and professionalism. Together, they are parents of Garnet Valley Performing Arts alumni Dr. Ron Phillips Jr. and Maryn Phillips and remain deeply connected to the program even after their children’s graduation.
The Garnet Valley Performing Arts Association is deeply relieved and honored to celebrate Ron Phillips, who has successfully come through a difficult and frightening medical situation. Earlier this year, at Jackie’s insistence, Ron scheduled a routine medical scan that led to a cancer diagnosis. Everyone in both his performing arts family and his law enforcement family was grateful that the illness was caught early and that Ron was able to recover and return to the work and communities he loves.
The respect Ron has earned in his professional life was evident on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, when officers from the New Castle County Division of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5, presented a $7,500 donation to Penn Medicine in Ron’s honor. The funds, raised through No Shave November and Nail Polish November, reflected how highly Ron is regarded by his fellow detectives and their desire to give back in his name.
Within Garnet Valley Performing Arts, Ron’s impact is just as profound. For twelve years, he was a cornerstone of the set crew and build team, bringing real skill, craftsmanship, and reliability to every production. Known for showing up with his knee pads on, tools in hand, and ready to work, Ron tackled every build with patience and precision. Students and adults alike trusted him not only for his technical expertise, but for his steady presence and willingness to teach and support others.
Jackie Phillips continues to be an essential part of the program. As a dance captain and choreographic support, she works closely with students, helping them grow in confidence and discipline while maintaining a positive and encouraging rehearsal environment. Jackie’s leadership, kindness, and commitment to excellence have made her a trusted mentor and a beloved member of the GVPA community.
Ron and Jackie are also proud parents watching their children continue in the performing arts. Dr. Ron Phillips Jr. will appear as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar with Beatrice Herford’s Vokes Theatre in Wayland, Massachusetts, while Maryn Phillips will perform as Nigel the Dormouse in Alice by Heart with Footlighters Theater, located at 58 Main Avenue, Berwyn, Pennsylvania, running March 20 through March 29.
The Phillips family exemplifies the spirit of Garnet Valley Performing Arts. Through their service, generosity, and unwavering support of students, including their sponsorship of senior scholarships, they have created a legacy that will continue to benefit the community for years to come.
